Jedburgh Town Trail
The land that Jedburgh is built on began forming over 470 million years ago on an ocean floor. It has since been shaped by tectonic movements, volcanic activity, weathering and multiple ice ages. The town’s history goes back 1200 years. Of that, Jedburgh has hosted royal visitors for nearly 900 years (including 18 monarchs, in every century except the 1600s). From an early settlement beside the Jed Water to a town whose festivals, stories and sporting traditions remain alive today, follow the people, conflicts, ideas and places that shaped Jedburgh.
